Through its various organizational units, the NICHD supports a variety of research networks, centers, and initiatives. These types of networks and projects allow for large-scale research efforts that could not be done in a timely manner by researchers working alone.

Networks and projects often share core facilities and techniques that not only help to accelerate progress toward a research goal, but also to ensure that a study is large enough to be statistically stable.
