The mission of the Population Health Research (PHR) Affinity Group is to conduct innovative population-based etiologic and interventional studies across the life course—from preconception through adulthood—and to translate research findings into clinical practice and public policy. Our goal is to maximize health and well-being of pregnant women and their partners, infants, children, and adolescents. Our group provides specialized training to early career scholars in the disciplines of biostatistics, epidemiology, and social & behavioral sciences.
Current research areas covered by labs within this group include maternal and lifestyle factors associated with healthy pregnancies and optimal fetal growth; the developmental origins of health disparities; social and environmental exposures during sensitive windows of human development and their implications for future generations; genetic and epigenetic factors associated with early life growth patterns; the early life development and continuity of health-related behaviors; and development of cutting edge methods in data science with application to population health research.
Studies within the Population Health Research Affinity Group address problems that have significant population health impact including pregnancy complications, adverse birth outcomes, obesity, cardiometabolic diseases, and behavioral and mental health problems that onset early in development.
