How do health care providers diagnose hypoparathyroidism?

A health care provider will order a blood test to determine the levels of the following:

  • Parathyroid hormone
  • Calcium
  • Phosphorus
  • Creatinine
  • Magnesium
  • 25-hydroxy vitamin D1

Urine also may be tested to determine how much calcium is being removed (excreted) from the body.1
