Cleaning Coverslips for Tissue Culture

Teflon racks are available in the MIC Prep Room, GD732.  They may not be removed from the facility, however!

Handle coverslips at all times with tweezers or gloved hands.

  1. Place coverslips in Teflon racks and rinse for 1 min in dH2O with agitation.
  2. Soak in 4N HCl for 3 days.
  3. Rinse in dH2O.
  4. Soak in 70% Ethanol overnight.
  5. Rinse in dH2O.
  6. Sterilize in the Teflon racks at 121°C for 20min sterilizing time and 20min exhaust time.
  7. Working in a biological safety cabinet, transfer sterile cover glass to individual sterile dishes for storage.
