Dr. Milena Jovanovic is a Staff Scientist in the Section on Adolescent Bone and Body Composition at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. She has more than 10 years of experience in Bone Biology field. She earned her Master of Science in medical biochemistry from the University of Belgrade in Serbia. Then, she obtained her Ph.D in physiology and cell biology from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel. During her Ph.D, she identified a novel role of GPR39 zinc receptor as an important regulator of bone homeostasis. After obtaining her Ph.D, she joined NICHD in March 2018 as a Visiting Fellow for the postdoctoral training, during which she was involved in translational studies of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), elucidating the mechanism and signaling pathways of Type XIV OI. After her postdoctoral training, she joined the Section on Adolescent Bone and Body Composition at NICHD as a Staff Scientist where she is interested in skeletal phenotype of young patients with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and the effects of HRT treatment on bone. Dr. Jovanovic will be leading the HRpQCT program as she has a substantial experience studying bone phenotype in murine models using micro-computed tomography.
