Welcome to the 29th NICHD Young Investigator's Conference!
The NICHD Young Investigators Conference is an annual meeting to facilitate the interest and training of academic physician scientists. The meeting, now it its 29th year, is open to fellows and junior faculty in neonatology, maternal fetal medicine and reproductive endocrinology who have a plan of academic medicine as a career. The fellows/junior faculty are nominated by their department and approved by NICHD with a goal of one attendee per program. Faculty, representative of the thought leaders and mentors in the field, are invited to give cutting edge lectures and to participate in breakout groups, including a mock study section, clinical trial design workshop, and luncheon sessions on balancing career, work and home. There is a high faculty-to-fellow ratio to facilitate mentoring and interaction, both formally through didactic lectures and workshop sessions, as well as informally at meals, at the meeting. Participants are required to attend the meeting in its entirety from September 5 at 3PM through September 7 at 3PM.
This conference is coordinated through NICHD's Office of the Director, and includes the Pregnancy and Perinatology Branch, Gynecologic Health and Disease Branch, and Program in Reproductive and Adult Endocrinology. This year, the meeting is co-sponsored by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Society, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics (Section on Perinatal Medicine).
The goals of the conference are to:
- Facilitate the interest and training of academic physician scientists.
- Foster collaboration across subspecialties.
- Encourage mentoring between faculty and fellows.
On this website, you will find the information you need to help you prepare for the meeting. The agenda will provide an overview of the meeting, which includes presentations and breakout groups. As mentioned in the correspondence you have received, there are two break-out sessions, one on designing a clinical trial and one that is a mock study section. Both of these require advance preparation, and you should consult with your Program Director. There are documents on this website to facilitate your preparation. Please give yourself enough time to review the literature for the clinical trials workshop and the three grants for the mock study section, as well as consultation with your Program Director.
