Purpose

To address climate change as a critical global public health challenge, NIH launched the NIH Climate Change and Health Initiative in 2022. Led by the Fogarty International Center and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in collaboration with 23 other NIH institutes, centers, and offices (ICOs), the initiative hopes to reduce health threats from climate change across the lifespan and build health resilience in individuals, communities, and nations around the world, especially those at the highest risk.

To educate and inform colleagues and the public about the human health implications of climate change, participating ICOs support the Climate Change and Health Seminar Series to highlight research work in the field of climate change, while promoting transdisciplinary discussion and collaboration in this concerted effort against an extreme threat to health. Within this context, NICHD and ONR are leading the inaugural seminar. Moderated by ONR Director Andrew Bremer, M.D., Ph.D., the webinar will feature presentations from professors Nancy Krebs, M.D., M.S., and Kartik Shankar, Ph.D., DABT, from the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
