NICHD Perinatology Research Chief Elected to Institute of Medicine

Perinatology Research Branch Chief

Roberto Romero, M.D., Chief of the NICHD Perinatology Research BranchRoberto Romero, M.D., Chief of the NICHD Perinatology Research Branch, has been elected as a member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies. The IOM provides scientifically-informed analysis and recommendations on human health issues. Dr. Romero's research over the last 25 years has included work on the early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy, the prenatal diagnosis of birth defects, pregnancy complications, fetal injury, and the causes of preterm labor. In addition to heading the Perinatology Research Branch, Dr. Romero also serves as the Program Director for Obstetrics and Perinatology in the Division of Intramural Research and is a professor of molecular obstetrics and genetics at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
