Purpose
Palliative care—interdisciplinary, specialized medical care for those living with serious illness—focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of serious illness for the patient, their family, and their community. Gaps in knowledge about pediatric palliative care jeopardizes not only the lives of the estimated 74,000 U.S. children who need it each year, but also the health and lives of their families and communities.
This conference examines the current state of pediatric palliative care knowledge. Speakers will summarize current research and analyze gaps and opportunities for research in maternal, perinatal, infant, child, and adolescent patients with serious illness. Conference presentations and panel discussions will also focus on cross-cutting themes of health equity, ethics, and the challenges of caring for children with medical complexities. Attendees will engage with leaders in the field and related areas to formulate a research strategy that improves pediatric palliative care.
Individuals who need reasonable accommodations to participate in this activity should contact Verna Robinson at vrobinson@bizzellus.com or 202-601-8646 at least 5 days in advance.
