Rates of maternal mortality and morbidity are rising in the United States. NICHD and members of community-based and healthcare provider groups are gathering for panel discussions about maternal morbidity and mortality, why U.S. rates are so high, how patient communities can inform future research, and engagement strategies that can enhance local efforts to improve maternal health.
Keynote speaker Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, director of the District of Columbia Department of Health, will explain how DC is working to improve maternal health by engaging with its residents.
Forum attendees will:
- Share experiences about patient-provider interactions and process for making clinical care decisions.
- Discuss opportunities and challenges that communities, healthcare providers, researchers, and policy leaders should consider when planning to address maternal morbidity and mortality at the local level.
