201710 Data Coordinating Center for the NICHD Cooperative Multicenter Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units (MFMU) Network (Midiovnik, PPB)

Program seeks Council approval for the “Data Coordinating Center for the NICHD Cooperative Multicenter Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units (MFMU) Network”. This is a recurring request targeted for 2019.

Through this FOA, we wish to invite applications from institutions willing to participate as the Data Coordinating Center (DCC) for the NICHD MFMU Network. The Network comprises of 12 NICHD- funded clinical centers conducting interventional and observational clinical studies in pregnant women under cooperative agreements mechanism.

The objective of the MFMU Network is to facilitate the advancement of obstetric care by establishing a collaboration of academic centers that, by using common protocols, can enroll the required number of research participants quickly and provide statistically rigorous answers in a timely fashion on patient care issues at much lower costs than a single center proposing studies.

In support of these activities, the data coordinating center will be a full member of the MFMU and provide a coordinating function to enhance development, implementation and monitoring of common Network protocols. This coordination includes, for example:  provision of capitation funds for patient recruitment, data management and quality control, compliance with FDA regulations for protocols involving IND or IDEs, data analyses and data sharing, and logistical support to enable an efficient and productive network.

The data coordinating center and 12 academic MFMU centers conduct research related to NICHD Vision areas: pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes, developmental biology, reproduction, developmental origins of adult disease, and behavior and cognition.
