Understanding vulvodynia is an important part of NICHD's mission to improve women's quality of life. In partnership with other parts of the NIH, NICHD supports a wide range of investigative efforts on vulvodynia, from basic science to clinical research. Through research grants, meetings, and outreach activities, NICHD aims to build a more complete scientific understanding of the prevalence, mechanisms, treatment, and prevention of the disorder, and to increase awareness of vulvodynia among researchers, health care providers, and women generally.
