201701 SPROUTS: Development of Eating Behaviors in Young Children

The Division of Intramural Population Health Research (DIPHR) proposes an initiative entitled “SPROUTS: Development of eating behaviors in early childhood”.

This initiative addresses a critical knowledge gap in our understanding of early life implicit processes that influence eating behaviors.

The goal of this initiative is to investigate the development of neurobehavioral factors and their influence on eating behaviors and growth in young children. Leveraging resources from the DIPHR-funded Pregnancy Eating Attributes Study (PEAS) of pregnant women and their infants from early pregnancy to 1-year postpartum, this goal will be achieved by extending follow-up of these families from child age 2 through 5 years.

This initiative aligns with the NICHD Vision areas of Developmental Origins of Health and Disease and Behavior and Cognition.
