Contraception and Birth Control: NICHD Research Information

The NICHD has supported contraceptive research and development since 1968, when the Center for Population Research (CPR) was established. Contraceptive research and development is critical for providing safer, more efficacious methods of preventing unintended pregnancies. By supporting research on a variety of contraceptive methods and evaluating their safety and efficacy, the NICHD is helping to ensure the health and needs of individuals across the nation and globe are being met.
