Purpose

The Medical Rehabilitation Research Speaker Series provides an opportunity for selected NCMRR grantees to share their research with colleagues from rehabilitation-related and other fields.

This inaugural session features NCMRR grantees James Finley, Ph.D., and Ela Plow, Ph.D., P.T., presenting their advances in the field of motor rehabilitation following stroke.

Dr. Finley external link directs the Locomotor Control Laboratory at the University of Southern California, where he investigates how locomotion is controlled and adapted in both the healthy and injured neuromuscular system. His presentation is on Understanding the Link Between Asymmetry, Effort, and Stability During Post-Stroke Gait.

Dr. Plow external link runs a lab at Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute, where she investigates neuroplasticity to create windows of opportunity to improve neurological outcomes. Her presentation is on Non-invasive Brain Stimulation in Stroke Rehabilitation.

Series events will include presentations from the grantees followed by a question-and-answer session.

Individuals who need reasonable accommodations to participate in this activity should contact Eliza Polk at eliza.polk@nih.gov or 301-242-0003 at least 5 days in advance.
