Purpose

This annual lecture honors Dr. Mortimer B. Lipsett, who was renowned for his expertise in a variety of endocrine-related disorders and for serving NIH for more than 25 years as a biomedical investigator, physician, and administrator. He had the distinction of being named Director of the Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center, NICHD, and the National Institute of Arthritis Metabolism and Digestive Diseases (now the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases). Dr. Lipsett’s research focused on adrenal steroid hormones, cancer, chemotherapeutic agents, and reproductive endocrinology. He died in 1985.

This year’s Lipsett lecturer is Dr. Eli Y. Adashi , professor of medical science and former dean of medicine and biological sciences at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School. Dr. Adashi served on the National Advisory Child Health and Human Development Council, on the Reproductive Endocrinology Study Section, and on the trainee selection committee for NICHD’s Reproductive Scientist Development Program.
