201701 Low Cost Intervention to Improve Infertility Outcomes

This concept from the Epidemiology Branch, Division of Intramural Population Health Research, NICHD, involves a new initiative to improve pregnancy rates among racially- and ethnically-diverse women with chronic inflammation.

The hypothesis underlying this initiative is that pre-pregnancy anti-inflammatory therapy will improve pregnancy rates among women with low grade inflammation undergoing “low-tech” infertility treatment. If successful, improvements in pregnancy rates from ovulation induction and intrauterine insemination treatments may be significantly improved for the first time in decades, improving couples’ outcomes during first-line treatment and thus reducing their need for more expensive and invasive treatments.

This initiative aligns with the NICHD Vision area of Reproduction, as well as Health Diversity and Disparities.
