Biosketch

Vera A. Cherkasova, Ph.D., joined SRB as a scientific review officer (SRO) in 2023, where she manages review panels of clinical research applications submitted to NICHD networks. Additionally, she serves as the SRO for other Special Emphasis Panel meetings. Her research expertise includes studying metabolic and signaling pathways in various model organisms. 

Dr. Cherkasova began her NIH career in 2000 as a staff scientist at NICHD, where she studied nutritional stress responses and translational control in budding and fission yeast. In 2015, she transitioned to work in scientific administration, taking a position with the NIH Center of Scientific Review (CSR) as a contractor SRO. At CSR, she oversaw reviews for several standing study sections, Special Emphasis Panels, and early phase clinical trials. In 2021, she became an SRO with the National Library of Medicine, where she participated in biomedical informatics, library, and data sciences review meetings. 

Dr. Cherkasova graduated from Moscow State University with an M.Sc. in biochemistry and from the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology in Moscow with a Ph.D. in molecular biology. She has published in leading peer-reviewed journals and presented her studies at numerous national and international events.
