Research at the NICHD

Through its intramural divisions, NICHD researchers conduct innovative research about human development through the lifespan. Investigators at these NICHD laboratories and facilities, on the NIH main campus and in other locations, conduct basic, clinical, and translational research on a variety of topics and using a variety of technologies.

NICHD intramural research is credited with scientific advances ranging from the technology that made the home pregnancy test possible, to a vaccine that eliminated a major cause of intellectual and developmental disability in the United States.
