Sonya Freeman is a lead committee management specialist in the Committee Management Branch, within the Office of the Director’s Office of Legislation, Public Policy, and Ethics. She previously served as a committee management specialist with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s (NHLBI) Office of Committee Management Service Center, from 2013 to 2020. While at NHLBI, she managed advisory committee portfolios for the NHLBI Board of Scientific Councilors, National Asthma Education and Prevention Program, Sickle Cell Disease Advisory Committee, Sleep Disorders Research Advisory Board, and for the National Institute of Nursing Research National Advisory Council for Nursing Research. She also managed several Institutional Review Groups and Special Emphasis Panels to ensure that all activities complied with statutory requirements of the Federal Advisory Committee Act and institute committee management rules and regulations.

Prior to her tenure with NHLBI, Ms. Freeman was an extramural support assistant for the Office of Extramural Affairs (OEA) at the National Institute on Drug Abuse. She provided a broad range administrative support to scientific review officers and OEA senior staff in their scientific review activities as well as in logistics management, travel management, and purchasing/procurement.
