Tuba Fehr, Ph.D., is a program officer in DBCAB, where she directs programs in systems developmental biology and developmental genetics and genomics. Her scientific expertise includes classical and molecular genetics, epigenetics, cell biology, biochemistry, developmental biology, rare disease, and genomics using Drosophila, zebrafish, and mouse models. In her role as a program officer for DBCAB, she focuses on developmental gene regulatory networks, computational network models of developmental processes, and single-cell approaches and functional ‘omics technologies to understand the molecular, cellular, and structural basis of development.
Dr. Fehr joined NICHD’s Division of Extramural Research in 2017 as a science policy fellow for the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She worked on initiatives and policies and served on NIH-wide committees related to intellectual and developmental disabilities research, newborn screening, clinical genomics, rare disease, and autism.
Prior to joining NICHD, Dr. Fehr was an NIH National Research Service Award postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois-Chicago, where she studied signaling defects and the molecular mechanisms underlying a rare lysosomal storage disorder using cellular and mouse models. During her postdoctoral training, Dr. Fehr also held local and national leadership positions, where she worked on policies and initiatives aimed at improved benefits, professional development opportunities, and career mentoring for postdocs.
Dr. Fehr holds a Ph.D. in genetics from Harvard University and dual B.Sc. degrees in molecular biology and genetics and chemistry from Boğaziçi University in Turkey.
