Purpose

Deborah Yelon External Web Site Policy, Ph.D., is Chair of the Cell and Developmental Biology section at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Yelon’s laboratory studies organogenesis—the development of organs—using a zebrafish model of the heart. Her lab’s main research goal is to understand the molecular mechanisms that determine the size, shape, and attributes of each cardiac chamber in the zebrafish heart. In the long term, this work will help improve our understanding of congenital heart disease and inform strategies for regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
