A Request for Applications with set-aside is proposed entitled, “The Human Placenta Project: Planning for Paradigm-Shifting Innovations in in vivo Human Placental Assessment” using the U24 (Resource-Related Research Projects--Cooperative Agreements) mechanism.
Purpose
The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement, in support of the NICHD Human Placenta Project (HPP), is to support planning activities and the initial stages of development of entirely new or next generation in vivo placental imaging and assessment technologies and methods that will lead to major advances in our understanding of the human placenta throughout gestation.
Scope
The proposed RFA will solicit formation of interdisciplinary teams to collaborate on developing novel and transformative approaches to in vivo assessment of human placental structure and function over the course of gestation.
Objectives
The objective of this RFA is to initiate a chain of technological innovations and their application to the in vivo assessment of development, structure, and function of the human placenta from the earliest stages of pregnancy through delivery. The ultimate goal is transforming our knowledge and understanding of this vital organ’s role in maternal and child health.
