How are applications assigned and reviewed?

  • Assignment and Review of Grant Applications: Applications are received and assigned by the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR), Division of Receipt & Referral. The majority of grant applications are reviewed by CSR study sections. The CSR website has rosters of review committee members, receipt deadlines, application page limits, and all other policies related to peer review.
  • Review Committees for Fellowships and K awards:
  • Review Committees for T32 Applications: T32 applications may be submitted in response to the Parent T32 FOA or to specific Program Announcements. The NICHD uses a single deadline of May 25 for T32 applications. Review occurs the following October/November. Before 2011, applications were assigned to standing NICHD study sections and special emphasis panels for review. Since 2011, the NICHD has been using a single committee to review all of the T32 applications. Committee members include investigators who have experience directing these institutional training programs, as well as ad hoc members with expertise in specific fields.
