Beginning in 1991, researchers at a network of institutions around the country conducted the Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development (SECCYD). Cooperative agreements established relationships between the NICHD and 10 study sites, and between the Institute and at two data coordinating centers. In addition, the SECCYD Steering Committee reviewed and approved major scientific decisions about the Study and established policies and procedures governing the operations of the Network, including its publication procedures. An Advisory Board of leading scholars in the fields of child development and health provided additional impartial oversight. The NICHD coordinator monitored the progress of the Study.
Funding for the SECCYD ended in 2009. However, the use and analysis of the data is ongoing.
