NICHD scientific research planning aims to ensure that the Institute's research portfolio is fully responsive to emerging, important scientific opportunities and public health needs within its research mission.
The Institute and its components rely on multiple processes to identify promising areas of research and critical gaps in scientific knowledge, to then help inform future research directions for the scientific community and the Institute.
The NICHD Scientific Vision: The Next Decade was created in collaboration with Institute colleagues in the research, health care provider, and public policy, public health, and advocacy communities following an in-depth discussions to identify the most promising scientific opportunities of the next decade across the breadth of the NICHD mission. The Vision sets an ambitious research agenda not only for the NICHD, but also for the Institute’s collaborators and stakeholders. The Vision will help inform an Institute-wide strategic planning process, which will commence early in 2013.
