NICHD podcast features research on adrenal gland disorders

This month's NICHD Research Perspectives podcast focuses on adrenal gland disorders and research conducted by NICHD staff at the NIH Clinical Center.

Guest host Constantine Stratakis, M.D., D.Sc., Director of the institute's Division of Intramural Research, led a discussion on common adrenal disorders affecting children, the importance of screening, and management of symptoms over the long term, among other topics. Guests included

  • Maya Lodish, M.D. – Staff Clinician in NICHD's Program on Developmental Endocrinology and Genetics, and Deputy Director of NICHD's training program in pediatric endocrinology

  • Mitra Rauschecker, M.D. – Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University and a graduate of NICHD's adult endocrinology fellowship program

  • Meg Keil, Ph.D. – Senior Nurse Practitioner and Associate Clinical Director in the Office of the Clinical Director

Much of NICHD's research on adrenal gland disorders takes place within the intramural Program on Developmental Endocrinology and Genetics. The program carries out translational research that addresses a wide spectrum of endocrine and genetic disorders, with particular emphasis on disorders of development, growth, and puberty.

Research Perspectives is a monthly podcast featuring NICHD scientists and program staff, speaking on scientific topics relevant to the institute's mission. The series provides a means for researchers to go beyond the descriptions in news releases, to discuss implications of research—what the findings may mean for patients and members of the public, and what directions future studies might take.
