The NICHD is committed to promoting healthy pregnancies and, in turn, healthy infants and children. Preconception care and consistent prenatal care are instrumental in preventing complications and promoting a healthy pregnancy. The NICHD leads research and works as a partner with many organizations, including the March of Dimes, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, to support research promoting the importance of preconception and prenatal care. These partnerships improve pregnancy outcomes and reduce the risk for fetal and infant morbidities and mortality.
