Obstetrics/gynecology is the branch of medicine that manages the health care of women. Obstetrics focuses on care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the recuperative period following delivery, whereas gynecology addresses diseases and routine physical care of the reproductive system of women. The NICHD is one of many federal agencies and NIH Institutes working to further advance obstetrical and gynecological health care.
