Neuroscience touches almost every aspect of research supported and conducted by the NICHD.

Extramurally, the NICHD supports research in the neurosciences related to child development and rehabilitation, reproduction and fertility, HIV/AIDS, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and pregnancy and fetal health. For more information, including project areas and funding opportunities, visit the Neuroscience Research Support at the NICHD website.

In addition to NICHD-sponsored initiatives and investigator-initiated projects, the NICHD also supports neuroscience research through trans-NIH initiatives, including the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) initiative, which is being funded through the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research.

The NICHD’s intramural divisions also conduct a wide range of research on neuroscience-related topics, including (but not limited to) genetic disorders, birth defects, neural imaging, and neuronal development.
