The NICHD maintains a dedicated focus on the study of epigenetics and developmental epigenetics through both intramural and extramural research. In recent decades, epigenetics has become a topic of increasing interest throughout the NIH research community. The NICHD joins other NIH institutes and centers and other federal agencies in advancing understanding of how epigenetic changes alter the processes of development, health, and disease.
