Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS)
FARS is a nationwide census sponsored by the NHTSA to provide yearly data on fatal injuries from motor vehicle crashes. The website provides access to FARS data and includes information on research (including access to technical publications), laws and regulations, and driving and vehicle safety.
Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA)
The GHSA represents the state and territorial highway safety offices that implement programs to address behavioral highway safety issues, including occupant protection, impaired driving, and speeding. It maintains resources on distracted driving and tracks state legislation and driving statistics. In 2011, GSHA issued a report summarizing distracted driving research and issuing recommendations for states.
The National Academies
Based on a 2007 multidisciplinary workshop focused on emerging technology for studying, monitoring, and controlling driving behavior, the National Academies Press issued the book “Preventing Teen Motor Crashes: Contributions from the Behavioral and Social Sciences.”
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
The NHTSA maintains information on vehicle safety research, including research reports and national and state-specific data.
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
The NIAAA supports and conducts research on the impact of alcohol use on human health and well-being.
