Your vocabulary (vo-kab-you-la-ree) includes all the words, phrases, abbreviations, and expressions that you can recognize and understand, but don’t necessarily use. You have a written vocabulary (words you know and understand when you see them in print), and an oral vocabulary (words you know and understand when you hear them). The larger your total vocabulary, both written and oral, the easier it is for you to make sense of what you read. |
