National laws in the United States require employers to provide a reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for one year after the child's birth. There is no set limit for the number of times that an employee can express breast milk during a given day.
Employers are also required to provide a place other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public, to be used by an employee to express breast milk.1 Special rooms provided by employers for mothers to express their breast milk during work hours are called lactation rooms.
