Biosketch:

H. Trent MacKay, M.D., M.P.H., joined the Contraception and Reproductive Health Branch in 1998, and has been the Branch Chief since 2006. He is a Captain in the United States Public Health Service. He did his undergraduate work at Stanford University, his medical and postgraduate medical training at the University of California, San Francisco and obtained an M.P.H. in maternal and child health at the University of California, Berkeley. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. After seven years of private practice in Northern California, he served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in the Division of Reproductive Health at the Centers for Disease Control from 1983-85. He was a full-time faculty member at the University of California, Davis from 1985-92 and a medical epidemiologist and an acting branch chief in the Division of STD Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control from 1992-1998. Since coming to NIH, he has been the Project Officer of the Contraceptive Clinical Trials Network, he developed the Progestin Contraception and Endometrial Bleeding Grant Program and solicited grants for Training in Epidemiology and Clinical Trials for Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He participated in the planning and execution of the NIH-wide meeting on Menopausal Hormone Therapy. He has represented the branch at WHO on multiple occassions, and has previously participated in multiple short-term consultations of up to two months in South Asia, Southern Africa, the Middle East and Central America. From 2001-2006 Dr. MacKay spent half-time as the Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Associate Director for Women's Health Services at the National Naval Medical Center. He is also a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Dr. MacKay has been a reviewer for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Journal of the American Medical Association, Contraception, and others.
