Susan F. Newcomer holds a 1984 Ph.D. in population studies from the University of North Carolina, an M.S. in educational administration from Iowa State University, and a B.A. in psychology and Chinese from Barnard College. She is responsible for managing the Branch portfolio of extramural research on reproductive health including social and behavioral research on fertility, contraceptive use and AIDS/HIV risk research. Prior to joining the Branch in 1988, she was the national director of education for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Her own research has focused on teen pregnancy prevention, sexual behavior, and contraceptive use.
