Analysis Techniques for Step Activity Data

by Cyma, Inc.

The figures below illustrate how a combination of analysis techniques available with StepWatchTM 2.0 can be used to identify and quantify specific aspects of performance. For the two days shown, the overall activity and cumulative intensity distribution (Figure A) were very similar. However, the raw data (Figure B) reveal strong differences in how the activity was accumulated throughout the day. The differences can be drawn out and quantified through an analysis of sustained activity (Figure C). These measures represent the greatest average intensity achieved each day over continuous intervals of four lengths (1, 5, 20 and 60 minutes) that have functional and cardiovascular implications.
