June 2, 2009
Sponsor/Co-Sponsor: Public Information and Communications Branch (PICB), Office of the Director, NICHD
Location: Natcher Balcony A, NIH Campus, Bethesda, Maryland
Purpose: The aim of this meeting is to bring together researchers and experts who can speak to the role of the media in young people's lives, particularly new media, such as social networking sites, blogs, text messages, etc. We want to find out what media young people are using and how they're using it; what kind of advertising is most prevalent in these types of meda; and how the ability to generate content in new media might influence the way we teach media literacy in the Media-Smart Youth® progam. We also hope to learn about parents' interest in and use of the new media so that we can most effectively communicate with them about what their children are learning in Media-Smart Youth.
